Victoria Burrows
Victoria Burrows has been in the entertainment industry for more than 25 years. Victoria is at once awe inspiring in the way she refers to Hollywood A-list directors by first name and down to Earth as she casually consults IMbD to recall the extensive list of movies and television shows she cast. Victoria’s huge casting successes include Flight with Denzel Washington, Contact with Jodie Foster, Cast Away with Tom Hanks, and Lord of the Rings to name only a few. To this casting director, who makes her living from the world of make believe, there is no greater success or role more real or dear to her heart than her role as director of Star Paws Rescue.
Victoria began her passionate pursuit of rescuing and fostering dogs in 2005 when on hiatus from casting for several months. Victoria found that having grown used to working 12-hour days, she was bored after only a few weeks of not working. She began observing and volunteering with her friends in pet rescue and was quickly compelled to found Star Paws Rescue.
Raised in Pacific Palisades and familiar with the area and its surroundings, Victoria established Star Paws Rescue there. However, Victoria was unprepared for the volume of animals abandoned in the area specifically because of its perceived affluence. Weekly people drive to the area from surrounding communities to abandon their pets where they think there are people who will be willing and able to care for them better than their struggling owners can. Sadly, many pet owners will go to extremes to get rid of their pets that are sick, injured or unwanted. A local dog park has become a dumping ground for unwanted pets. These dogs are left to fend for themselves without food, water or shelter and defenseless against the coyotes known to reside in the area. Star Paws Rescue fosters and places many of these dogs.

I’ve been involved in dog rescue for a decade now. WOW, where has the time gone, wait, I know, it’s gone to the dogs. I’ve been a volunteer for Starpaw Rescue for 8 years. In the old days, my Sunday mornings would consist of Sunday brunches, with Mimosa’s and Eggs Benedict, inhaling that wonderful ocean breeze. They now consist of water bowls, dog treats and lots of wagging tails, YEP is called dog adoptions. But I still get that ocean breeze, and, I wouldn’t trade it for the world. And, I’m now a lot skinner. I’ve met some great people along the way, and any acting jobs I was lucky enough to book all came from dog rescue connections. How’s that for good Karma.

Southern California Native, born and raised in the (805), Actor, Entrepreneur & Animal Advocate. Simply put, I love Animals. Having worked with Victoria and Star Paws Rescue for the past several years has been a treasure in my life, and given me the opportunity to help those furry loyal friends without a voice find peace and purpose. I’ve made life long friends working with Star Paws, both two legged and four. Some I will never see again, but will know that we helped find a place they deserve, a loving respectful place, they can call home. I just worry that Victoria may want to cast me as dog in one of her movies one day. I’ve been told by many a Director to “Sit”, “Stay”, “Roll Over & play Dead”, so I think I’m adequately prepared for the task. But I am still uncertain with the whole Fire Hydrant thing. I work for Treats too.

Born in Lexington, Kentucky. Having been a photographer in the U.S. Army, an actor on stage, a drummer in bands, a painter, writer and more, I’ve seen and experienced my share of the world. No matter where I’ve been in the world, I’ve always found that dogs are the same loving, devoted, wondrous animals that us humans can learn from. Having been a “black sheep” of my family growing up, I had a kinship with other “black sheep” dogs in my neighborhood. Even though they didn’t know me at first, they acted like I was their best friend. Quite comforting for a boy like me and their affectionate, trusting, loving personalities were ones I adopted into who I became. It’s a wonderful time meeting up every Sunday with Star Paws Rescue in Pacific Palisades. A big, affectionate, trusting, loving family of humans and dogs all with the same goal…to find an affectionate, trusting, loving home, not for us humans, but for the wonderful puppies and dogs.
